BODY SKIN BRIGHTENING · MELBOURNE CLINIC
Alma Harmony IPL targets sun damage, uneven skin tone, and dullness on the arms, shoulders, décolletage, and back - improving body skin clarity and radiance over a course of treatments. Available at our Melbourne clinic.
THE TREATMENT
Alma Harmony Body Brightening uses IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) technology to target pigmentation, sun damage, and vascular irregularities in the skin of the body - improving skin tone, clarity, and overall radiance in areas where chronic sun exposure or uneven pigmentation has dulled the skin's appearance.
It is particularly effective for clients who have noticed a significant difference between the clarity of their facial skin and the skin on their arms, shoulders, décolletage, and back - which can accumulate years of sun damage with less attention and care.
HOW IT WORKS
Alma Harmony delivers controlled pulses of broad-spectrum light energy absorbed selectively by melanin in pigmented lesions - breaking down pigment deposits and reducing sun damage, age spots, and uneven tone without disrupting surrounding skin.
01
Your practitioner assesses the areas of concern, the type and distribution of pigmentation, and confirms whether Body Brightening is appropriate for your skin type and presentation.
02
Avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least 4 weeks before treatment. Do not apply self-tanner or attend tanning sessions in the weeks leading up to your appointment.
03
20 to 45 minutes depending on area
The Alma Harmony handpiece is passed systematically over the treatment area, delivering controlled IPL pulses. Most clients describe the sensation as a brief, warm snap - well tolerated without anaesthesia.
04
Pigmented spots typically darken and naturally flake away over 1-2 weeks following treatment - revealing clearer skin beneath. Skin tone and clarity improve progressively over a course of 3-5 sessions.
TREATMENT TARGETS
Sun damage and age spots on the arms, shoulders, and hands
Uneven skin tone and patchy pigmentation on the back and décolletage
Freckles and diffuse solar lentigines from sun exposure
General dullness and lack of skin clarity on the body
Mild vascular irregularities and redness on the body
Body Brightening is most effective on superficial pigmentation caused by sun exposure. Deeper pigmentation, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and melasma respond differently - your practitioner will assess at consultation.
TREATMENT AREAS
Upper and lower arms - one of the most common areas for accumulated sun damage and age spots.
The chest and upper breast area - often significantly more sun-damaged than the face despite receiving less skincare attention.
Areas frequently exposed to sun without adequate protection - often showing significant pigmentation changes over time.
The backs of the hands - where sun damage and age spots are commonly noticed and often underaddressed.
All treatment areas confirmed at consultation. Tanned skin is a contraindication - treatment must be postponed until tan has fully faded.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
SR is optimised for facial redness and sub-surface inflammation using specific wavelength filters that target haemoglobin. Body Brightening uses different IPL settings optimised for pigmentation and sun damage on the thicker skin of the body. The platform is the same - the clinical application, settings, and target concerns differ.
Following treatment, pigmented spots typically darken over the first few days - this is a normal and expected part of the process. The darkened pigment then gradually sheds from the skin surface over 1-2 weeks, revealing clearer skin beneath. Avoid picking or scrubbing the treated area during this time.
Most clients see meaningful improvement after 3-5 sessions spaced 3-4 weeks apart. The number depends on the degree of pigmentation, the area being treated, and individual response.
No - tanned skin is a contraindication for IPL body brightening. Treatment must be postponed until the tan has fully faded, typically 4-6 weeks after sun exposure. We recommend avoiding sun exposure in the weeks leading up to and following treatment, and using SPF 50+ daily.
Alma Harmony Body Brightening is most effective on fair to medium skin tones. Clients with darker skin tones are at higher risk of pigmentation changes with IPL - your practitioner will assess suitability at consultation and may recommend an alternative approach if appropriate.
Yes - Body Brightening is often combined with ZO Body Peel or HydraFacial body treatments for a more comprehensive body skin renewal result. Your practitioner will advise on appropriate combinations at consultation.
