About the treatment

What Is V Tone?

V Tone is an intravaginal electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) device by InMode. It delivers gentle electrical stimulation directly to the pelvic floor muscles, inducing involuntary muscle contractions that strengthen and re-educate the pelvic floor in a way that voluntary exercise alone may not achieve.

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that support the bladder, uterus, and bowel. When these muscles weaken due to childbirth, hormonal changes, ageing, or underuse, women may notice a reduced sense of bladder control, pelvic heaviness, or a decline in pelvic floor function that affects comfort and confidence in daily life.

How it works

What to Expect at Your Appointment

V Tone uses electrical muscle stimulation to induce controlled, rhythmic contractions of the pelvic floor, activating both fast-twitch and slow-twitch muscle fibres to support strength, endurance, and coordination.

Step 01

Consultation

Your practitioner discusses your wellness goals and health history. Contraindications including pregnancy, IUD, active infection, recent pelvic surgery, and implanted devices are assessed.

Step 02

Preparation

Performed in a private, comfortable setting. The small V Tone applicator is gently inserted intravaginally. No anaesthesia or numbing is required.

Step 03

30 min

Treatment

Gentle electrical stimulation is delivered in a controlled pattern. Most clients describe rhythmic muscle contractions, similar to a strong, correctly performed Kegel. Intensity is adjustable throughout.

Step 04

After Your Treatment

No downtime. Return to normal activities immediately. A course of sessions is recommended. Your practitioner will advise on frequency and number for your goals.

Individual responses vary. Results are not guaranteed.

What it may support

Pelvic Floor Function - From the Inside Out.

Pelvic floor muscle strengthening

V Tone directly activates both fast-twitch and slow-twitch pelvic floor muscle fibres, building strength and endurance in muscles that may have become weakened or poorly coordinated over time.

Bladder support

Weakened pelvic floor muscles can contribute to a reduced sense of bladder control. V Tone may help support the muscular component of bladder control as part of a pelvic floor wellness programme.

Not a treatment for urinary incontinence. Consult your GP or physiotherapist if you experience incontinence symptoms.

General pelvic floor wellness

For women seeking to proactively maintain pelvic floor health, V Tone offers a structured, technology-assisted approach to pelvic floor muscle conditioning that goes beyond what home exercise alone can reliably deliver.

Postnatal pelvic floor support

Once cleared by your healthcare provider, V Tone may be used as part of a broader postnatal recovery programme to support pelvic floor muscle reactivation and strengthening after childbirth.

Healthcare provider clearance required before proceeding postnatally.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is V Tone Painful?

No. Most clients describe the sensation as rhythmic muscle contractions, similar to a strong, correctly performed Kegel exercise. Intensity is adjustable and monitored by your practitioner throughout. Most clients find the treatment comfortable.

How Is V Tone Different From Kegel Exercises?

Kegel exercises require deliberate, sustained contraction of the correct muscle groups, which many women find difficult to perform consistently or correctly. V Tone uses electrical stimulation to induce the contractions directly, activating the correct muscles effectively regardless of whether the client can perform Kegels reliably. V Tone is most effective as a complement to, not a replacement for, regular pelvic floor exercise.

Can V Tone Help With Bladder Leakage?

V Tone may help support the muscular component of bladder control as part of a pelvic floor wellness programme. However, V Tone is not a treatment for urinary incontinence. If you experience incontinence symptoms, we recommend consulting your GP or a women's health physiotherapist for appropriate assessment and management.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

A course of six sessions spaced one to two weeks apart is typically recommended as a starting programme. Your practitioner will outline a plan based on your goals at consultation.

Is There Any Downtime?

No. Most clients return to normal activities immediately following treatment.

When Can I Have V Tone After Giving Birth?

We recommend waiting until cleared by your GP, midwife, or physiotherapist, typically no earlier than six weeks postpartum for vaginal births, and longer following a caesarean section. Please confirm with your healthcare provider before booking.

Can I Have V Tone If I Have an IUD?

No. An IUD or any intrauterine implant is a contraindication for V Tone. Please inform your practitioner at consultation.

Is V Tone a Replacement for Seeing a Physiotherapist?

No. V Tone is a supportive wellness treatment and does not replace assessment or treatment by a women's health physiotherapist. For clients with diagnosed pelvic floor conditions, we recommend working with a physiotherapist alongside their V Tone programme.

Can V Tone Be Combined With Other Treatments?

Yes. V Tone is commonly combined with Diamond Polar pelvic wellness and Tone abdominal muscle rehabilitation as part of a broader women's wellness programme. Your practitioner will advise on appropriate combinations at consultation.
